Etecia Brown, owner of Letthemflourish, will facilitate a 2-part childbirth workshop at Philadelphia Print Works on July 14th and 15th from 1 pm - 3 pm. Participants will explore the physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of birth. The workshop will cover the historical and political nuances of birthers of color, common challenges that affect the black community (diagnosis and interventions), navigating medical care as a queer family, birth options, non-synthetic methods of supporting healthy pregnancy and labor, indigenous practices for pain management, postpartum care, breastfeeding, and newborn care.Â
Â
This workshop is useful for those who are planning a pregnancy, those who are currently pregnant, those who know someone who is pregnant or those who would like to become more informed on the maternal and child health disparities in communities of color. All are welcome.
Etecia Brown is a certified full spectrum doula, queer family planner, and herbalist. Her intention is to decolonize birthing in the U.S.
Light refreshments will be served. You are invited to bring in an object to share in the collective altar (you can take with you at the end of workshop). Participants will also receive printed materials, discounts on services and products, and free giveaways. Please bring a yoga mat (optional).Â
